Lewisham County Council

Local Authority – Lewisham County Council [with Support from the ECB]
Sites – Hilly Fields and Mayow Park
Brief – To re-establish the playing surfaces at each park as part of a re-generation of sports facilities.
Timescale – July 2008- to present [ongoing into 2011]
Overview – Envirowork Lewisham and Lewisham Council in partnership with the ECB identified two parks within the borough that once had cricket/sports played within them. As part of the ECB focus on facilities, the ECB agreed to support the project, which was also also funded by the Big Lottery Fund as well as Lewisham Council.A feasibility study was completed in July 2008. Further feasibility studies were carried out during  2009 with in-depth specifications of work and materials being drawn up, to reconstruct two  cricket squares and outfields [ one at each park]. This project included working with Turftrax Grounds Management Systems, which used the innovative electromagnetic scanning system [this identifies soil density and produces a 3-Dmap of the ground] to help establish the  type of soil  present, enabling accurate determination of the works required. The facilities once constructed will be used by local schools and cricket clubs. The maintenance work will be carried out by Envirowork Lewisham. Currently a contractor has been chosen and work is scheduled to  commence  in late August 2011.
